With a population of about 315,000 inhabitants, it is the sixth largest city in France.<\/p>\n<p>During classical antiquity, Nantes was identified as a port on the Loire. It became the largest port of the country during the 17th century, and was responsible for nearly of the 18th-century French Atlantic slave trade.<\/p>\n<p>In the 21st century, Nantes was praised for its quality of life and received the European Green Capital Award. Created in its current form in 1961, it has its origins in the ducal university of Brittany founded in 1460 in Nantes by Fran\u00e7ois II, Duke of Brittany.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>On the 1st of January 2022, the University of Nantes integrates the \u00c9cole Centrale de Nantes, ENSA Nantes, and the Nantes and Saint-Nazaire School of Fine Arts as component institutions, retaining their legal personality, and associated the IRT Jules Verne, Nantes University Hospital, and INSERM with its governance. This building is known as interdisciplinary university centre dedicated to digital cultures.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>The new Quartier de la Cr\u00e9ation transformed the former Alstom factories (Ateliers et Chantiers de Bretagne), into an urban campus for training, research, and innovation. Rebuilt in the early 1950s, Halle 6 Ouest is the last stage in the evolution of this site since the beginning of the 20th century.
